Desoppo bars - Marco Voltolini

Test cut in YAG

Same stone as above, different lighting

An easy design based on the concept of the "opposed bars". Usually opposed bars design have the bars inverted (orthogonal) with respect this design. I was just curious to see what was going to happen by inverting the bars, so I thought about this design. It is very fast to cut and has few facets. I'm not sure how it'd work with quartz, so I suggest to cut this with higher RI's stones. Angles are set to work with topaz. The results with YAG are nevertheless promising (see pics on the right), it should also work well in garnets.

If you need it, you can make the end facets of the pavillion steeper, in case of closed c-axis tourmaline for example. You'll loose some meetpoints then, and you'll have to calibrate the facets size by eyeball. In any case final meetpoints and/or facets size could require some extra work if you want the meets like in the diagram...

The same applies if you want to use a higher L/W. It is not a problem at all, just the end facets on the pavillion will not meet like in the diagram, but this is really not important. You can use this design with a lot of flexibility to suit your taste.
