Gilson Synthetic Opal
I added this and was wondering if anyone wants this expanded, given that we are discussing NATURAL opal. Visual characteristics are the key to identification of this product, i.e., "lizard-skin" appearance under high magnification when they are mounted. Tom Goodwin, G.G. 20:09, 24 January 2007 (PST)
Excellent, excellent, add anything you can, Tom! I appreciate it. Barbra 20:36, 24 January 2007 (PST)
- TY, TY! I will add text "on-the-fly" here. Tom Goodwin, G.G. 17:53, 25 January 2007 (PST)
Synthetics
Chatham also produces synth. opal (see chatham.com). I have never tested any of it though. Might be worth mentioning aswell. --Doos 10:47, 30 January 2007 (PST)
- Thank You for pointing this out. I know about the "new" Chatham synthetic diamonds, but I will research the Chatham synthetic opals and edit the section. Maybe the synthetic process is different than Gilson's. Tom Goodwin, G.G. 13:32, 31 January 2007 (PST)
