This design is actually a variant of my "Faceting 101 - Lesson 7". When I was writing the original lesson plans, I kept coming up with designs that didn't quite meet the goals for the lesson. However, when I rendered them, they turned out nice. This is one of those. I found out that when I changed the pavilion by just a tiny bit, I got a huge difference, with a compass rose effect underneath the table.

The reflection pattern of this design is interesting - it reminded me right off the bat of a compass rose, and there's a surprisingly large amount of color coming through. It almost looks like there are supporting arms coming out of the corners, holding up the compass rose. I prefer this design in slightly brown Arizona peridot, but it can be cut in any material from quartz to rutile (RI = 1.54 - 2.62) with no changes. You might want to optimize it a bit in the higher RIs, though.

This design is very straighforward and easy to cut.
