Shougha - Marco Voltolini

Rendering simulating amethyst, olivine, garnet, and aquamarine
Test cut in African amethyst

This may be one of the simplest barion checkerboard possible, with only 42 facets.

The resulting stone is very lively and pleasant, but I'd suggest this design for smaller stones, around 1-2 ct. I think it would be an excellent candidate for those small African garnet pebbles often available on the market. The test-cut in a medium-colored amethyst provided a very nice stone, and the renderings suggest a good performance in about any material.

Cutting this design is very straightforward with no particular difficulties: once the centerpoint on the pavilion is correctly set, all other facets will come consequently.
