Beginner Shield - Michiko Huynh

This is an easy-to-cut shield design. The angles are good for most of gem materials. This design is a good practice for barion cut and step cut. Cut the steps as even as you can.

About barion

A barion is a group of facets that looks like a crescentic moon and is located under the girdle. In this design, they are the facets 4, 5 and 6. Barions may be used in deep pavilions in ovals, cushions, shields etc. They help avoiding overly steep pavilion angles and make cutting easier by allowing a cutter to start with the same angles. In this design, a cutter can start cutting the pavilion at 41 degrees in a cone shape.
