The gemological microscope is an invaluable tool in the laboratory. By using illumination techniques, the internal characteristics of a gemstone can be examined with the microscope to:
- Detect whether a gemstone is natural or synthetic by observation of the gemstone’s inclusions
- Detect many gemstone treatments
